SSIS offers education from Nursery up to High School, offering programmes of the International Baccalaureate. It offers lessons conducted in English, and teaches Chinese as a second language. Overview

The school was established in 1996 as an integral part of Suzhou Industrial Park's development, and has students from over twenty countries. The school's education system from Nursery to Grade Five is based on the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. Grades 6-10 are taught using the MYP, and students who meet the official MYP requirements upon completing the 10th grade receive an MYP certificate. Students entering grade 11 choose to take the "High School Diploma", a system which is roughly analogous to North American high school programs; or to take the two-year IB Diploma course. Students in the High School course may take some IB classes, but will not receive an IB diploma upon graduation.

The school has moved from its old site at Xing-lan-jie Street（星汉街82号 Xīng-hàn-jiē 82 hào）to its new site at 208 Zhong Nan Jie. The school year at SSIS generally begins at the end of August and concludes at the end of June.
